About Achtung Camper

Background

Achtung Camper was founded in 2013 in Geelong, Victoria by German-born Ronny Probandt and his partner Tania Differding. The couple met in Torquay in 2004 and immediately set off on a year-long trip around Australia’s border in a 1983 Toyota Tarago with bed-sheet curtains and a cheap esky. This experience sparked their obsession with campervan travel and eventually led to founding Achtung Camper after noticing a lack of modern, high-quality campervans in Australia.

Ronny brought a background in cutting-edge design and high-quality German workmanship to the business. Achtung Camper positions itself as Australia’s first “designer campervan” brand, converting Volkswagen Transporters/Crafters and Mercedes-Benz platforms into bespoke campervans and motorhomes.

Ownership & Structure

Small family-run business owned by Ronny Probandt and Tania Differding. They operate from 77 Mercer Street, Geelong with service centres in Geelong, Sydney, and Burleigh Heads. The company builds over 40 conversions per year.

Manufacturing

Bespoke conversions performed at their Geelong workshop. Each campervan is custom-built on VW or Mercedes-Benz platforms. The company offers a six-metre-long medium-wheelbase Crafter motorhome as its largest model, deliberately limited to fit in standard car parking spaces. Every new demo vehicle is test-driven by the founders before release. Conversions carry a five-year warranty with complimentary servicing at 6 months, 12 months, and 2 years. Pricing starts from approximately $93,000 for a base front-drive model.

Market Position

Premium boutique campervan conversion segment. The average build costs around $163,000.
