Background

MDC (Market Direct Campers) was founded in 2005 by Vaughan Hindley in Queensland, Australia. What started as a small side business has grown into a national operation with 150+ staff, 8 showrooms throughout the country, and over 40,000 campers and caravans delivered across Australia.

Vaughan remains actively involved as a caravanner and four-wheel-driver who travels around the country with staff to test products in real conditions. MDC was the first RV importer in Australia to receive RVMAP accreditation, and they have expanded internationally with operations in the US market as well.

Ownership & Structure

MDC is a proudly Australian, family-owned business. The company also operates under the AUSRV brand. The business has grown from a Queensland startup to a national operation with showrooms in all major states.

Manufacturing

MDC caravans and camper trailers are designed in Australia. Each van receives over 50 hours of finishing work including gas and electrical compliance. The Forte SR range features independent trailing arm coil suspension and lithium battery systems with rooftop solar. The XT range targets the serious off-road market with features like 400Ah lithium batteries, 1225W rooftop solar, and 3000W inverters. MDC led the imported caravan segment with 19.5% search share in Q1 2024.

Market Position

MDC sits squarely in the value-for-money segment of the off-road caravan and camper trailer market. Their Forte range targets on-road and semi off-road touring, while the XT range targets serious off-road enthusiasts. Base prices start from the mid-$60,000s for their caravan range.
