About OPUS Camper

Background

OPUS Camper originated in the UK under the Purple Line LLC group of products. The concept was inspired by the founders observing inflatable field hospitals while serving in the military, combined with inspiration from folding sun and rain shields on children’s prams. In 2012, the OPUS team began developing a folding camper trailer, and the original dual-fold concept with hoop framing was the result. Within a year, the Australian arm developed a heavier-duty chassis to suit Australian conditions.

The Air OPUS will self-deploy in approximately two minutes — simply push a button and the onboard air compressor inflates the air beams, which replace standard hoops, until they become rigid enough to hold the tent securely in place even in gale-force winds. The concept won a Good Design Selection at the 2017 Australian Good Design Awards, with the jury calling it “genuine innovation at a surprisingly affordable price.”

Ownership & Structure

OPUS Camper is part of Purple Line, a UK-based family business. The Australian arm is run by family member Johnathan Harrison through Purple Line Australia. The company operates as a global brand with presence in the UK, Australia, and the US.

Manufacturing

Australian versions are assembled in Braeside, Melbourne, by RV equipment specialist Purple Line Australia, with approximately 50% local content. The company operates a showroom in Keysborough, Melbourne. The range includes the original folding campers (OP2, OP4) and the newer hybrid range (OP13) launched in 2020, which bridges the gap between camper trailers and full caravans.

Market Position

OPUS sits in a unique niche — the inflatable/air-beam camper trailer segment where they have very few direct competitors. Their innovative setup technology appeals to buyers who want the experience of camping without the physical effort of traditional tent-based campers. Their hybrid range expands their addressable market into the caravan space.
